Turntable 2sday: Novation Dicer - Serato cue point and looping controller

Yea I know it's Wednesday, but I was itching really bad to post something yesterday for Turntable 2sday here on The Freshest NoveL and I got distracted. Then I seen that serato officially is behind the new Dicer by Novation so I figured why not. Anyway, the Dicer acts as a hot cuer, beat cutter, and fx controller. You can also set hot cues and select tracks. It's specifically made for Serato Scratch Live, but works with Traktor too, and made to fit pretty much anywhere with the addition of "DJ putty." The putty allows the controller to stick to your CDJs or laptop and if your a vinyl head with Technics, there's a special adapter. In a time where it seems midi manipulation is the next step in DJ evolution, the Dicer provides a compact, simple way to jump on the band wagon.

"Who Dat" J. Cole Official Music Video

The official music video for J. Cole's "Who Dat." The video has a simple concept, with random explosions that kept me entertained, but that's just me. I'm excited to know that Cole is on the The Roc and as long as he keeps "that flame" and stays hungry, I hope to hear from him in the future. Check his official web site at

Kil Ripkin "Not You"

Never heard of this cat, but I found this track in my gmail. Here's a little excerpt from Ripkin's bio: "Hip Hop is a culture that was created by and for the people, and when it comes to exhibiting that love and passion for the art, nobody displays it like Kil Ripkin the Genereal, AKA The Ghetto Correspondent. Growing up in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn N.Y., Kil set out on his journey to be the next big thing in Hip Hop. Kil began as a solo artist quietly establishing his name as some one to be wreckon with, earning the respect of his peers alike. Kil began producing his own music working under the tutelage of his big Bro., songwriter, producer and engineer Don Newkirk (Smoking Heads)..." If you like what you hear make sure you check back here @ The Freshest NoveL, you can also follow Ripkin on twitter.

Turntable 2sday: TRAKTOR VS SERATO scratch comparison By DJ Qbert !!!

DJ Qbert himself puts the Serato's Scratch Live against Traktor's Scratch Pro in a head to head comparison dealing specifically with scratching.

Traktor is a Native Instruments product and is known for it four independent effects units and its advanced beat detection and Sync Lock for perfect mixing. Notables rockin' Traktor include DJ Craze, DJ Rafik, Carl Cox, and DJ Shiftee just to name a few. For the complete list of Traktor artists check out the Traktor website.

Serato Scratch Live comes to us from Rane, more notable for its mixers before Serato came along. Scratch Live is the industry standard as far as digital interfaces go with features including a SP-6 Sample Player and the next level video SL plug-in, which allows a DJ to scratch, mix, and manipulate audio/video files in real time. Some of the world's top DJs use Scratch Live including Sasha, Steve Aoki, A-trak, DJ Jazzy Jeff and even King Zulu Nation himself, Afrika Bambaataa. Check out the Serato Scratch Live site to see all the other DJs on Serato.

Dude's pretty good on the mic, and he's also pretty savvy: Hooking up with talented young filmmaker Ian Wolfson has made each of Mac's three videos considerably stronger than your average low-budget fare." -Complex Magazine
