Turntable 2sday: DMC Champion DJ Shiftee + Traktor

For this week's installment of Turntable 2sday, Native Instruments brings us a DMC Champion doing his thang with a combination of Traktor and the X1 controller. DJ Shiftee takes the forever classic "Hip Hop" performed by Dred Prez and flips into a dub step remix. I am more and more impressed with Traktor and the X1 controller every time I see one of these videos, I guess it also helps that some of the best turntablists in the world are involved.
With the addition of digital interfaces combined with the creative mind of a DJ, producer, singer or whatever you are, levels of performance are becoming limitless. Back in the day DJs thought technology would never even come close to matching the art form, but now technology is not only pushing the art form, but allowing various art forms to come together and go places above and beyond.

Turntable 2sday: The Midi-Fighter Mix by Ean Golden

This addition to Turntable 2sday comes way of DJtechtools.com and a little something called "controllerism." I'm not the biggest fan of only using controllers to rock the party; I'd prefer a combination of controllerism, turntablism, and mixing, but I'm not here hate. For those of you saying "what the f*ck is controllerism," it's the art of producing and manipulating music live using computer controllers and software. I've never seen it live in action, but never the less, there are some folks out there who can rock it and Ean Golden is one of them. Check out his 10 minute mini mix, which includes a little bit of everything and if you want to learn more about controllerism, check DJtechtools. The site is filled with tips for DJs, reviews of gear, and all things related to digital DJing.

Turntable 2sday: Novation Dicer - Serato cue point and looping controller

Yea I know it's Wednesday, but I was itching really bad to post something yesterday for Turntable 2sday here on The Freshest NoveL and I got distracted. Then I seen that serato officially is behind the new Dicer by Novation so I figured why not. Anyway, the Dicer acts as a hot cuer, beat cutter, and fx controller. You can also set hot cues and select tracks. It's specifically made for Serato Scratch Live, but works with Traktor too, and made to fit pretty much anywhere with the addition of "DJ putty." The putty allows the controller to stick to your CDJs or laptop and if your a vinyl head with Technics, there's a special adapter. In a time where it seems midi manipulation is the next step in DJ evolution, the Dicer provides a compact, simple way to jump on the band wagon.

Turntable 2sday: TRAKTOR VS SERATO scratch comparison By DJ Qbert !!!

DJ Qbert himself puts the Serato's Scratch Live against Traktor's Scratch Pro in a head to head comparison dealing specifically with scratching.

Traktor is a Native Instruments product and is known for it four independent effects units and its advanced beat detection and Sync Lock for perfect mixing. Notables rockin' Traktor include DJ Craze, DJ Rafik, Carl Cox, and DJ Shiftee just to name a few. For the complete list of Traktor artists check out the Traktor website.

Serato Scratch Live comes to us from Rane, more notable for its mixers before Serato came along. Scratch Live is the industry standard as far as digital interfaces go with features including a SP-6 Sample Player and the next level video SL plug-in, which allows a DJ to scratch, mix, and manipulate audio/video files in real time. Some of the world's top DJs use Scratch Live including Sasha, Steve Aoki, A-trak, DJ Jazzy Jeff and even King Zulu Nation himself, Afrika Bambaataa. Check out the Serato Scratch Live site to see all the other DJs on Serato.

DJ SHIFTEE DMC WORLD CHAMPION 2009

Wikipedia:
Turntablism is the art of manipulating sounds and creating music using phonograph turntables or digital turntables and a DJ mixer.

DJ Shiftee was added to the legendary list of DJs in the DMC DJ Hall Of Fame back in September of 2009. Even though he does gig on Traktor, he is one of the most talented turntablists out right now. Make sure you google this guy, because you have to give much respect to a guy who can rock like he does.
